Stellarton recreation and culture director Paul Corbin reported to council at Monday’s meeting that winds recently took out the baseball net around the Albion Baseball Field.
Last Tuesday, Corbin said heavy ice accumulation from freezing rain caused “tremendous weight” on the net. That was followed by high winds that ripped the net out of its secure lines, said Corbin.
The wind then caused the net to drift across Stellar Street and hit power lines, temporarily knocking power out in the area.
Corbin said Nova Scotia Power went to fix the outage, and secured the net. It has since been fully taken down. Corbin hopes to have the net reinstalled in early spring, before the baseball season starts.
