Regional association hands out tourism awards

Destination Eastern and Northumberland Shores hosted their annual gala awards dinner at Glasgow Square, honouring businesses, attractions and individuals.

The winners are as follows:

 

Rising Star Award: The Deanery Project

Located in Ship Harbour on a 25-acre ocean front property, they provide a wide variety of learning, recreational and research opportunities related to fields, forest, waters and rural living. Open year round they offer tourism experiential place-based programs and projects that draw visitors from around the country looking for nature exploring.

 

CEO Award – Chief Experience Opportunity: Riverside International Speedway

Located in James River, the 1/3 mile asphalt short track has hosted events such as the Wounded Warriors Canada 300, Parts for Trucks Prostock Tours and is the only stop in Canada, east of Quebec, for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series and it is the only Canadian race track east of Quebec to be sanctioned by NASCAR. Their races can accommodate more than 800 recreational vehicles in designated camping areas.

 

Festivals and Events award: Stan Rogers Folk Festival & New Glasgow Jubilee

Stan Rogers Folk Music Festival is a three-day Nova Scotia signature festival held in Canso to celebrate the late musician for which it was named. This festival shows true Nova Scotia pride by celebrating music and an artist who loved the province and Canso area just as much as any of the locals.

 

New Glasgow Jubilee

The unique outdoor amphitheatre setting provides the thousands of music followers that attend one of the most engaging music experiences of its kind. Built on a proud tradition of opportunity for the region’s rising stars to perform alongside experienced national and international performers, the Jubilee has become a tourism mainstay.

 

Flavour Award: Beanie’s Bistro

Beanie’s in Sherbrooke has become the spot where people of all ages gather to share a coffee or a meal and lots of laughter. Locals take their company to Beanie’s, area groups book their harvest table to host meetings and travellers are impressed with their food and their exceptional service. Max and Barbara also host special cooking classes where they share their knowledge from other cultures in preparing meals with those in attendance.

 

Marketing award: Memory Lane Heritage Village

Located in Lake Charlotte, this living history museum was founded in 1955 and depicts coastal, rural life in the 1940s. Knowledgeable community volunteers can be found throughout the village which includes Hoskings General Store, the homestead, a village garage, a church, a school, a boat shop and many more sites and buildings that allow visitors to truly travel back in time to the 1940s.

 

The Fleur Mainville Ambassador Award: Lynne Delorey-Vasil, Antigonish VIC

Lynne resides in Antigonish where she is a champion for the tourism industry. Lynne was the former owner of the Antigonish Evergreen Inn. Lynne also chairs the Antigonish Visitor Information Centre and is an advocate for treating visitors the way she would want to be treated. She is a director in the partnering and promoting of the Napa Sportsman Series and she and her husband Bill own the Cape Breton Miner’s Memorial Speedway. Lynne and Bill have just recently purchased the Antigonish Rent-all. She also sits on several other boards and committees in her spare time and continually give her all in anything she takes on.
