The Durham resident is volunteer with the local community centre who made a commitment to a dying friend that she would help keep the Greenhill water spring in good condition says it’s difficult to do when garbage is continuously being dumped in the area and now a piece of furniture is missing.

“Someone dropped off these two chairs and a table last year here with a note that said they were people who wanted to sit in the area and enjoy listening to the tickle of the water,” she said.

However, when Durham resident Rose Fraser’s daughter, Colleen, checked on the site Wednesday, the table was missing. This isn’t the first time items have been taken from the area, she said. A welcome sign and solar lights were also taken from the site.

The women replaced the lights and sign, but want the table returned to the area, no questions asked.

“If it can’t be that table, it can be one like it,” she said. “We use it to hold the guest books.

Cameron said the area is well used by visitors and local residents. The fresh water spring is the first attraction for people who will come from all over the county to fill jugs of water for their own use, but others have been known to just stop in the area and enjoy nature at its best.

Planters are placed along the bank and a bench is tucked into the wooded area on the side of the hill where she often sees people taking a break to eat their lunch.

“We look after this area for a reason,” she said. “I just want it to be used the way it is suppose to be used.”
