TRENTON

Changes to the administration of education in the local area have begun.

As of April 1, the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board will be renamed the Chignecto-Centre Regional Centre for Education. Board Superintendent Gary Adams will now become the regional executive director of education.

The changes are a result of the Education Reform Act which was passed in the legislature on March 9. The legislation dissolves the province's seven regional school boards as of March 31 and replaces them with a 15-member provincial advisory council, while keeping local school advisory councils in place along with board administrations.

The CCRSB held its last board meeting on March 28. The change in names will also be reflected on the CCRSB website, Facebook Page and Twitter account, although the logo will remain in place for now. There will be no changes to email addresses at this time.

In addition to the change of name, the Celtic Family of Schools office has moved from Westville Road to 37 Dickie St., Trenton. Its phone number has remained unchanged.

The Celtic Family of Schools is made up of 20 schools in Pictou County: 10 elementary schools, two elementary/middle schools, three middle/junior high schools, three high schools and one consolidated Grade Primary-Grade 12 school.
