PICTOU, N.S. – Pictou County council is anxious to see sidewalk construction begin in the Alma area, before school starts in September.

Council approved a bid from CF Construction for $438,251 to take on three sidewalk projects in the county. They include MacGregor Avenue, near Pictou County Wellness Centre; Alma, near Northumberland Regional High School; and Riverton, near the Riverview Home.

The company told council the Alma sidewalks would be first in priority, so it could be completed before students return to Northumberland Regional High School. But as of Aug. 5, there wasn’t any work being done.

Coun. David Parker said it’s taken four years from the time council approved this work to the time it was tendered to get a “couple of hundred feet of sidewalk” built.

“I hope it will be built before the kids are back. If not, it will present more challenges.”
