The Kinsmen Chicken BBQ was sold out before volunteers had finished cooking the meals.
Brian MacIntosh, one of the Kinsmen project chairs who helped coordinate the project said they had prepared for 1,600 dinners, but sold out early at the Friday July 13 event.
“The demand has been more than we thought it would be,” he said.
The money raised from the Kinsmen Chicken BBQ will go to help offset the cost of registration for kids who want to take part in the Kinsmen ball program.
The work for the barbecue is done by volunteers, some of whom were up at 3 a.m. to start the fire for the outdoor barbecue.
“It’s a very long day, but it’s a great coordinated effort between the Kinsmen and Kinette Club of New Glasgow.”
Between 30 and 40 members of the clubs volunteered at the event this year, he said.
