ALMA, N.S.

Charles Norris helped transport people back in time with a stage coach.

Norris brought the 19th century stage coach replica to Alma Saturday, Sept. 15 as dozens gathered to celebrate the opening of a community kiosk.

The Salt Springs resident said his son Bruce built the stage coach which is a replica of the one that was used to carry mail between Halifax and Pictou.

He said his son sent away for the blue prints and then built it from the top down to be exactly as the original would have been.

Norris explained that the coach would have travelled through Alma on its way to Pictou and back to Halifax.

The driver would have had to change horses several times on the trip, he said.

Nancy Levo, who is part of the Green Hill-Alma Historical Kiosk Committee, said the original stage coach was one included in the museum at the top of Green Hill when it was run as an amusement park. It was later taken out west, she said.

“It is now in the States owned by Wells Fargo, but this is the replica,” she said.
