UPDATED: TRURO, N.S. — Police say a 90-year-old man was killed when his truck collided with another vehicle after driving the wrong way on a Nova Scotia highway.

RCMP say officers responded to a report just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday of a small red truck that was travelling south in the northbound lanes near Truro.

Police say before they arrived on scene, a collision occurred between the red truck and another vehicle that had been travelling north.

The elderly man driving the truck died at the scene.

Two people in the other vehicle were taken to hospital by ambulance, but there conditions were not clear.

A section of Highway 102 near Brookfield remained closed as police investigate the exact cause.

A serious collision on Hwy 102 northbound near Millbrook resulted in the lane being closed off north of the Brookfield exit as traffic was diverted onto Hwy 2 into Truro on Tuesday afternoon.

Two vehicles were spotted at the scene, one was completely mangled. The resulting traffic jam extended as far back as Stewiacke and police were seen directing traffic. There is no word on casualties at time of writing.
