Westville police release names of July 1 fire victims

Police have released the names of the two people who died in an overnight fire in Westville.

Pennual Louise Duggan, 84, and her 56-year-old son Carl Allan Crawford were the residents of the home who perished along with three family pets.

In the early hours of Sunday, July 1 at approximately 12:20 a.m. Westville Fire Department responded to the structure fire on South Main Street in Westville. Westville fire was assisted by Stellarton and Alma Fire Departments and had approximately 34 firefighters on the ground. Firefighters were on the scene until after 3 a.m. Westville Police were called to the scene around 1 a.m.

Westville Police were assisted by the RCMP Forensic Investigation Service as well as the RCMP Major Crime Unit.

The fire marshal’s office also was involved in attempting to identify the cause of the fire. There has been no exact determination of the cause of the fire to date, but police do not suspect any foul play.

The investigation is continuing.
