The Westville Winter Jamboree is being hosted this year as the town seeks to expand their fun for families during Canada’s 150th year.

“We’re definitely excited,” said recreation director Clare Steele, who has been organizing the events.

She said the weather is ideal for everything form snowshoeing to sleigh rides.

While it’s the first time she can remember the town holding a winter carnival, she said they expect a good turnout for the free events.

People tend to feel snowed in this time of year, so it’s good to have an excuse to get out. Steele is confident the sleigh ride in particular will draw a large crowed.

It’s also a chance she believes for people to try something new. The curling on Saturday afternoon for instance will give people of all ages a chance to try their hand at throwing rocks. It’s something people might not try if it weren’t for an event like this, she said.

This past summer, the pond in Acadia Park was fixed up so it could be used for skating and has been a popular spot already this winter for skaters and hockey players.

While they had organized this day of activities as a way to celebrate Canada 150, Steele said they hope to make it an annual event.
