From Nov. 18- Nov. 25, the YMCA of Pictou County, together with YMCAs across Canada will be offering activities that help children, youth and adults explore peace from personal, local and global perspectives.
Collectively, YMCAs in Canada ask people to: build community; act for peace.
Peace building is core to the YMCA’s commitment to strengthening the foundation of healthy communities and part of the YMCA of Pictou County’s year-round programs.
“In today’s world, we are all connected to each other,” says Heidi Sinclair, communication, community outreach, and philanthropy manager at the YMCA of Pictou County. “By sharing our message of peace we are able to inspire others to become engaged in peaceful actions and together we can make a difference in creating a peaceful community.”
The YMCA is offering a series of free classes and activities this week. A special highlight is the YMCA Peace Walk on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 6 p.m. It will be followed by a scrapbook display of the YMCA of Pictou County over the past 50 years, a birthday cake and music. For more information about the walk and peace week activities, visit the www.pcymca.ca or the YMCA of Pictou County Facebook page.
