NEW GLASGOW - The fourth and final year of Models for Mental Health will take place Sunday.
The fashion show, featuring clothing from Marj Hatherly, Ladies Consignment Shop in Tatamagouche, will begin at 1 p.m. at Summer Street Industries. Clothing will be available for purchase after the show.
Organized by Lily DeYoung and Shawna Coleman, Models for Mental Health supports the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. Money raised stays in Pictou County and has supported programs such as Preserving our Mental Health, New Hope and Stand Up, Speak Out.
Starr Dobson, CEO of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, is returning to emcee the event. Similar to previous years, the event will feature a silent auction, 50/50 draw and cash bar.
Sheree Fitch, award-winning author, poet, storyteller and owner of Mabel Murple's Book Shoppe and Dreamery in River John, will deliver a special presentation at fundraiser.
An activist for women, children, literacy and mental health, Fitch's work has taken her around the globe but she is now a Pictou County proud Bluenoser from River John. She will open the second set of the show immediately following a brief intermission.
This is the last year for the Models for Mental Health event but it is not the end of DeYoung and Coleman’s efforts to fundraise for mental health supports. They look forward to organizing other events of a similar nature in the future.
Tickets can be purchased at any Scotiabank in Pictou County for $20. There is also an option to purchase a pay-it-forward ticket. The pay-it-forward tickets will not go to waste, as they will be shared with people who want to attend the event but don’t have the funds.
