PICTOU – A New Glasgow man who asked the court to give him a lifetime driving ban had his request granted Monday.
Lloyd Andrew Crosby, 40, was charged with evading police, driving while disqualified and failure to stop at a collision, an offence involving bodily harm. All charges were laid in relation to an alleged incident on June 7 in New Glasgow.
The court was told that Crosby was stopped by police June 7 and fled shortly after. A collision occurred with another vehicle a short time later at 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Bernard and Almont Avenue. Police say the driver of a Mercedes SUV fled the scene on foot following the collision and a woman driving a jeep was treated by Emergency Health Services.
Police identified Crosby as the driver of the Mercedes by viewing a cellphone left in the vehicle and located him on June 8.
Crosby entered guilty pleas Monday to all three charges and the Crown and defence said it had a joint resolution to present to the court.
The sentencing recommendation included two years less a day in prison followed by one-year probation and a 10-year driving prohibition.
The court was told Crosby has a lengthy related criminal record that includes convictions of dangerous driving and fleeing police.
When it was his turn to address the court, Crosby asked the court to give him a lifetime ban from driving because he has two young children who are important to him.
The judge granted Crosby's request. He must also pay a $200 victim surcharge fine.
