New Glasgows public works department is trying to determine what caused flooding in the basement at the New Glasgow library this week.

While the phone lines at the library were damaged, manager Greg Hayward said no significant damage was incurred when a pump under the basement floor was compromised, leading to about 20 inches of water filling the basement.

But everythings back up and were just drying out, he said, adding that the service to the public was otherwise not affected.

The New Glasgow fire hall was unaffected. Town engineer Earl MacKenzie said the situation has been stabilized, but town workers will be tasked with making necessary repairs on Monday, when the library is closed. That will make the situation easier because some digging work might have to be carried out.

Unless the situation changes – then wed have to address it on the weekend.
