SACKVILLE, N.B. – Members of the Sackville RCMP detachment are investigating after a body was discovered near the train bridge at the end of Bridge Street early Saturday afternoon.

Emergency dispatch called members of Sackville Fire and Rescue to the scene at approximately 2 p.m. to assist RCMP and paramedics, who were already at the scene.

Acting Cpl. Rene Blanchard said Saturday evening police were notified of the body by a pedestrian.

Blanchard confirmed the body was that of a male but said no further details, including the name of the victim, were being released until next of kin can be notified.

“It’s still under investigation, however, the only thing I can tell you is so far foul play is not believed to a factor in this incident.”

The coroner arrived at the scene shortly after 3:15 p.m., Blanchard said, and police will await their report.

Firefighters removed the body from the scene around 4 p.m. using the department’s off-road vehicle and trailer.
