The annual Smile Cookie campaign is underway at Tim Hortons locations in Pictou County until Sept. 23, with proceeds from the sale of the cookies going to the Pictou County Food Banks and the Pictou County Fuel Fund.
The food banks provide emergency supplies of food, helping an average of 625 families each month in 2018.
The Fuel Fund supplies families in need with emergency heating fuels between November and March each year. During the 2017-2018 heating season, about 250 families received assistance, helping to meet the organization’s goals that no child goes cold.
This is a major fund raiser for each organization. The cookies cost $1, with 100 per cent of the funds raised from the cookie sales being donated to the charities.
“Tim Hortons has had a long-time commitment to both organizations and has helped many Pictou County families in times of need over the years,” said George MacLellan of PCFF.
