Sobeys launched the ninth annual Star of Christmas Food Bank Drive campaign last week across Atlantic Canada.
The campaign takes place throughout the entire Sobeys Inc. network of more than 300 stores from Nov. 16 to Nov. 29. During that time all locations will be selling $2 Star of Christmas stars to help raise as much as possible for local food banks.
Since 2010, the annual campaign has raised over $4.5 million in food and funds, which have been donated back to food banks across Atlantic Canada.
“Food security is an important issue for many Atlantic Canadians, so we are proud at Sobeys to help ensure families are always able to eat,” said Paul MacLeod, VP Atlantic store operations. “The Star of Christmas Food Bank Drive is one of our largest campaigns in our region to help local food banks fill their shelves and we time the campaign so that it leads into the holiday season, one of the more vulnerable times for families.”
Along with purchasing the $2 stars customers can also purchase a pre-filled Hampers For Hope or donate a non-perishable food item at their local Sobeys, Foodland and participating Co-ops, Needs and Sobeys express stores.
