NEW GLASGOW – The choirs from three congregations will be joining their voices to share some Christmas music this weekend.
The churches will sing the cantata "Comfort and Joy" (by Pamela Martin and Lloyd Larson) on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m. The host choir at First Presbyterian in New Glasgow is welcoming the choirs from St Andrew's Presbyterian (the Kirk) and Green Hill-Alma United to join in this musical celebration of the popular Christmas story, conducted by Sandra Johnson and accompanied by Lloyd MacLean on the organ.
Soloists include Rachael McLean, Rev. Joon Ki Kim, pianist Sophia Kim, and narrator Jonathan MacIvor, and there will be other special music, including some congregational carol singing.
It’s all part of a busy weekend at First Presbyterian Church. On Saturday at 2 p.m. the Pictou County Community Orchestra, under the baton of Ken Henderson, will present a concert of light classical and Christmas-themed music in the Upper Hall.
“It’s just fun getting a bunch of choirs together,” said MacLean of the gathering.
He said with choir numbers dwindling in churches throughout the region, it’s nice to be able to fill the choir loft for a special occasion like this.
