John Joseph Dorrington, New Glasgow November 17, 1931 – June 12, 2018 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Joseph Dorrington, age 86. John passed away on June 12, 2018 in the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Glasgow he was a son of the late William Joseph and Donelda Kathleen (MacKay) Dorrington. John was a lifelong resident of New Glasgow. He was employed at Maritime Steel and also owned and operated J.D.’s Grocery on Trenton Road for many years. John was a kind, loving family man with a huge heart. He always had time to sit and visit with anyone who was willing to talk, particularly about sports and current affairs. An avid sports fan and athlete. He played baseball, hockey, broomball and umpired many baseball games. He was proud to be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for both hockey and baseball in 2008. He is survived by his daughters Debra (Bruce) Robinson, Halifax; Jacquelyn Keating, Westville; Sandra (Kevin) Baird, New Glasgow; 8 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother George (Mary) Dorrington, New Glasgow; sister Gertrude Wright, Stellarton. He was predeceased by his wife the former June Christie, granddaughter Amanda Robinson, brothers Frank, Sam, brother-in-law James Wright and a son-in-law Sandy Keating. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday, June 15, 2018 in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, June 16, 2018 in Christian Fellowship Church, Abercrombie Road, New Glasgow with Pastor Bruce Morrison officiating. Cremation will follow.
