Ralph Douglas Fisher

NEW GLASGOW - Ralph Douglas Fisher, 74, New Glasgow, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018, in the QEII Halifax Infirmary, Halifax. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Victor and Alice (Ley) Fisher. Ralph settled in New Glasgow, and there he met his wife of 46 years, Louise (Payzant) Fisher. A national basketball champion in his youth, Ralph was a junior and senior high school math and physics teacher and worked for many years as an industrial conveyor-belt specialist and designer. His real passion was the game of Bridge, which he avidly played with Louise not only locally but nationally and internationally. He continued with teaching and playing Bridge beyond retirement, making friends all over the world. He also very much enjoyed spending time with his family and his two cats Kitty and Carlotta. Ralph will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, integrity, and optimism. He will be much missed by everyone who knew him. Surviving are his daughter, Amy Fisher (Sean O’Neill); son, Aaron Fisher; sister, Katherine Nickerson; brother, Lorne Fisher; brother-in-law, John (Gina) Payzant. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Louise and brother-in-law, John Nickerson. The family will receive visitors 12 to 1:50 p.m., Friday June 29, 2018 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
