LETTER: Music continues to enrich our lives

The 79th Annual New Glasgow Music Festival was a tremendous success celebrating a talented and promising musical community in Northern Nova Scotia.

This year the festival welcomed performers from Guysborough to P.E.I. and everywhere in between. Thank you to the hardworking teachers, parents and extended families who continue to support this festival. You do this by registering your children, transporting them to and from and by providing them with the means to enrich their lives, every day, with music.

Having to experience the work-to-rule this year was a challenge for everyone, especially our devoted teachers. Thank you for not giving up. We as a committee and festival support you. A big thank you goes out to the Town of New Glasgow for stepping forward and donating Glasgow Square for our Musical Theatre performances. The space was inviting and organized and the staff welcoming and resourceful. The Festival is very grateful to have the continued support of Mayor Dicks and our town.

This year, as in past years, the festival performances took place at St. Andrew’s Church, St. George’s Anglican Church, Trinity United Church and First Presbyterian Church, as well as NNEC. Thank you to the venues for providing a familiar and positive safe space for the performers and to the audience for being a calm, proud presence. Your company reflects on the performances of the students.

It takes a diverse, committed team of volunteers to support such a festival. Our exceptional team of 80-plus volunteers worked very hard planning the schedule, preparing the venues, accommodating the adjudicators and welcoming the students. A sincere thanks to our volunteers and the festival executive. These volunteers care and give from the heart, all year long, to make this festival thrive and for that we are so grateful.

With over 900 entries this year alone, our festival has been steadily gaining registration and we have our students to thank for that. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. We sincerely enjoyed the performances and can say without a doubt that the audience members left feeling inspired and fulfilled as we hope you did.

And finally, thank you to the generous donors and sponsors who contribute to ensure music can thrive in our communities. Your financial contributions are essential to the health of our festival. Your support ensures that we can provide a space for musical learning, competition and performance. Children are our future, and your kindness will help them flourish.
