Recognized by his peers as one of Canada's best performing songwriters, Gallant has released nine albums (seven in English and two in French), which have won him a host of awards and nominations from both the Juno Awards and East Coast Music Association. His latest release, described by Dirty Linen Magazine as “another winning collection of first-rate songs by one of Canada’s premier songwriters”, If We Had a Fire, picked up the award for Roots Recording of the Year from ECMA. His previous album, When We Get There was nominated for a JUNO Award and went into space aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour.
Canadian astronaut Julie Payette chose the album for the astronaut crew to enjoy. The past few months have seen Lennie Gallant performing several sold out shows with Symphony Nova Scotia, Ontario and western Canadian tours, several high profile fundraisers, and producing the new album for up and coming Prince Edward Island trad-fusion band, Ten Strings and A Goat Skin.
A recipient of the Order of Canada for his contributions to Canadian music culture, Gallant has toured internationally, playing festivals and concerts accompanied by roots rock bands, and in acoustic settings. He has shared the stage with such accomplished songwriters as Lucinda Williams, Roger Hodgson (Supertramp), Patti Griffin, and Ron Sexsmith and has represented Canada at songwriter events in Nashville, London, and Texas.
As a performer, Gallant’s intense delivery reaches down to the very soul of his audience, moving effortlessly through stirring narratives, comic observations, and hard driving rhythms.
