NEW GLASGOW – Peter White keeps his comedy relatable.
Peter White will be home for the holidays, performing in New Glasgow on Dec. 22. SUBMITTED
White travels the world, and wants to keep people laughing wherever he is.
“I’m really selfish so a lot of it’s about me,” he jokes about his material.
White hails from Pictou County and will be returning home right before Christmas for a show in New Glasgow.
He’s based out of England now, and has been touring all over Europe.
No matter what he’s been doing, White likes to make the trip home this time of year.
“This show is always my favourite,” he said, adding that it’s nice to see everyone.
Although he looks forward to it, there’s always some fear involved in doing a show for people he knows.
That’s why when he first starting doing routines, he did it far away from home.
White decided to give comedy a go after moving to Calgary for engineering studies.
“If it went horribly wrong, no one would ever know.”
It didn’t go horribly wrong. In fact, he’s went on to perform at the Halifax Comedy Festival, Just For Laughs in Montreal, taped TV specials for CTV and the Comedy Network and live performances around the world.
He is even planning to do a show for the troops in the Middle East, and wants to break into the Asia comedy scene.
One of the best parts of comedy tours for White is the freedom.
“They pay me to travel around,” he said.
He’s learned through his travels that small towns tend to be better crowds.
People from larger cities have already seen so much comedy, making it a tougher market to break into.
“Small towns all over the world are pretty much the same,” he said, adding that it feels like home.
His time on the road feeds his shtick.
Much of his material is based on experiences he’s had over the last year and his take on things, while still making it universal.
He performs in New Glasgow at The Captain’s Helm Pub on Dec. 22 with Bryant Thomson and Ian Black.
Tickets are $10.
