Dunn says Drake video courses costing taxpayers millions
HALIFAX - Progressive Conservative Education critic Pat Dunn says Liberal Education Minister Karen Casey must scrap pre-approval for online video courses for teachers.
Progressive Conservative Education critic Pat Dunn says Liberal Education Minister Karen Casey must scrap pre-approval for online video courses for teachers.
Recently, Casey gave almost 500 teachers approval for the Drake video courses, wich also come with a salary bumps. The move could ultimately cost taxpayers as much as $50 million, according to Dunn.
“Karen Casey’s decision to throw tens of millions of dollars out the window with absolutely nothing to show for it is another worrisome sign of incompetence from the Liberals,” said Dunn. “The Minister must cancel the pre-approvals before more Liberal incompetence results in taxpayers shelling out tens of millions for a program that her department doubts will improve student outcomes.”
Dunn says a competent government would invest in programs proven to have a positive impact on students in the classroom. Instead the Liberals are allowing millions to be squandered on bogus upgrade programs.
“The Liberals just don’t get that they can’t afford to waste millions on substandard programs when the province is running a massive deficit,” said Dunn. “How many more millions will be wasted before the Liberals figure out the size of the problem we’re in?”
