Pictou County runners take part in Boston Marathon

Published on April 21, 2014

Scotsburn's Dave MacLennan was the first Pictou County runner to complete the Boston Marathon today with a time of 2:53:34.

MacLennan's time was good enough to finish 39th in his age group (male 50-54) in his sixth time running Boston.

Jim Lays and niece Cynthia Lays Campanaro had an identical finish of 4:00:25. This was Jim's third time running the Boston Marathon, while it was Cynthia's first.

Also running for the first time, Janet Fraser of Scotsburn finished with a time of 4:21:26. She finished 91st in her age group (female 60-64).

Pictou's Michelle Sutherland crossed the finish line at 4:51:13.

Vernon MacIntosh was also running today, but according to the live results he didn't make it past the 20km checkpoint. Last year he struggled with hip pain. At this time it's unclear if his chip stopped working or he was forced to leave the race early with an injury.

We will have more information as it becomes available.
