Locals win hardware at annual Ricoh Sport Awards

HALIFAX – At Sport Nova Scotia’s annual Ricoh Sport Awards, a night honouring the top athletes, coaches and volunteers in Nova Scotia, multiple Pictou County residents returned as award winners.

Westville’s Lisa Haley (hockey) was named the Ricoh coach of the year. Haley helped coach the Canadian Olympic women’s hockey to their gold medal in Sochi.

Marshall Fitt of Merigomish was named the Judo N.S. male athlete of the year.

For rugby, Scott Taylor was named the Rugby N.S. coach of the year. Taylor co-coaches the North Nova and the provincial U-18 boy’s teams. He is also the head coach of the Pictou County Rugby Club’s men’s team.

In equestrian there were two Pictou County award winners. Rosalind Moskovits of Salt Springs won coach of the year, while Brittany Fraser of New Glasgow was named the female individual athlete of the year.
