Bantam A Crushers compete at Cape Breton tournament

SYDNEY

The Pictou County Bantam A Crushers took part in the Ossie Fraser Memorial Tournament in Sydney last weekend and played three games at the Cape Breton County Arena.

The Crushers got off to a strong start on Friday with a 4-0 win over the Cape Breton West Islanders in game one followed by a 3-3 tie against Halifax Black in game two.

Saturday, however, saw the Crushers hopes of advancing past the round-robin portion of the 10-team tournament end, with a 6-0 loss to eventual tournament champion East Hants Penguins.

Chloe Stroud had the shutout in game one and goal scorers for the Crushers included Reilly Grant, Gavin Bourque, Cailan MacLellan, Dawson MacKay, Kirk Turnbull and Will Woolcock. Player of the game awards were given to Gavin Bourque, Dawson MacKay and Stroud.

  1. Bantam A Crushers resume their league play next weekend with a home-and-home series versus the first-place Antigonish Bulldogs. Their home game goes at 11:30 Saturday morning at the Wellness Centre.
