NEW GLASGOW – The MacGregor Kinsmen Midget AAA baseball club capped off their season by winning provincials this past weekend.

After returning home from their ninth place finish at nationals, the MacGregor Kinsmen were eager to prove they were the best midget AAA team in the province.

On four days rest they opened the provincial tournament with an 11-1 shellacking of North Sydney on Friday.

They got off to a slow start on Saturday, losing 9-0 to Hammonds Plains. Returning to the diamond Saturday evening the MacGregor Kinsmen righted the ship with a 10-1 walloping of West Nova. This put them into second place in their division.

In the semifinals on Sunday morning the MacGregor Kinsmen were matched up with the tournament leaders and hosts Woodlawn. Coming out on top of a 5-3 score put them into the championship against Hammonds Plains.

The MacGregor Kinsmen came out looking to avenge their earlier loss and posted a run in the first to open the scoring. The MacGregors added four more runs in the third going on to win 5-3.

Colby Russell was dominant on the mound keeping the Hammonds Plains batters off balance. Through six innings Russell gave up five hits, two earned runs and four walks, while striking out four. Ryan McPhee sealed the deal in relief.

This win was the final jewel in the rare midget AAA league triple crown. The MacGregor Kinsmen won the national elimination tournament, league title and provincials.
