GANGNUENG, SOUTH KOREA – Blayre Turnbull is one hockey victory away from Olympic gold.

The Canadian women’s Olympic hockey squad will play for their fifth straight gold medal, after they defeated the Olympic athletes from Russia 5-0 in Monday night’s semifinal.

Turnbull, a native of Stellarton, picked up two assists in the game for Canada, who will take on the U.S. just after midnight (AST) on Thursday morning.


Scotians in an 0-3 playoff deficit

TRENTON – There’s no margin for error for the Pictou County Scotians.

The defending league-champions trail the Antigonish Bulldogs 3-0 in their Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoff series, after the Bulldogs pulled out a huge 3-2 overtime win on Sunday at Trenton rink.

Giordano Saputo scored in the extra session, after Andrew Boyle and Ryan Kennedy had earlier given the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead before William Kelly and James Murphy responded with goals for Pictou County, tying the game and sending it to OT.

 Game 4 is Tuesday night at Antigonish Arena.


Lakeshore Curling Cub rink wins Travelers

NEW GLASGOW –   The winners of the 2018 Travelers Women's Club Curling Championship was the Lakeshore Curling Club rink skipped by Michelle Williams.

Her team defeated the Sharon Murray-Sellars rink from Windsor Curling Club on Sunday, by a 9-7 score.

Courtney Buchanan of the Bluenose Curling Club, which hosted this year’s provincial championship, went 1-2 in the round robin over the weekend.
