SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Desperate for a win, the Junior A Crushers got one on Saturday night in Summerside.

Jacob Hickey scored two goals as Pictou County beat the Western Capitals 4-3, holding off a late rally to put a halt to a four-game losing skid.

Kevin Mason and Giancarlo Fiori also had goals and Jake Martin notched three assists for the second straight game. Hickey now has 11 goals to lead the Maritime Hockey League club and the rookie Mason has five goals in the past six games. Goaltender Luke Melanson made 37 saves and was named the games first star.

Brodie MacArthur, Brodie MacMillan and Jordan Spence had goals for the Capitals, who trailed 4-1 at one point in the third period.

The victory in Summerside came one night after the Crushers were overwhelmed by the Miramichi Timberwolves in a distasteful 9-5 loss on home ice.

Mason had two goals in that game for Pictou County, Fiori, Hickey and Michael Dill also scored.

Dillon Boucher scored twice for the T-Wolves, who got goals from eight different players and scored four times in the first period to send starting goaltender Matt Normore to the bench, although that didn't seem to slow down Miramichi, who poured in five more against Melanson.

Crushers defenceman Aiden Hickey suffered a lower-body injury against the Timberwolves and will miss 2-4 weeks, a further hindrance to what was already a banged-up Pictou County blue line.

The two teams play again Thursday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
