WESTVILLE – Always aim higher.
A key organizer with the Curl for Cancer at the Westvillle Curling Club hopes to surpass last year’s total of $16,000.
The event, which features 40 teams of four this year, kicks off Friday night at the club, which is tucked away on Foley Street in Westville. The curling gets underway at 6 p.m and will last until 1 a.m.
“Hopefully, we’ll set a new record this year,” said Devan Coldwell, who is in her third year helping to organize the event.
“It’s something that’s good for the community – a good cause,” said Coldwell. “Everyone knows someone that has been affected by cancer.”
Four bands have been booked to provide entertainment and people are encouraged to come out, watch the curling, listen to music and soak up the atmosphere.
The participants have been collecting pledges for Curl for Cancer, which has been taking place in Westville for more than a decade. Coldwell said the event attracts many first-time curlers, some of whom may decide they enjoy the sport.
It’s not just an opportunity to pitch in and help out for a worthy cause, “it’s a good opportunity to see if you like curling, too.”
