At the rink the other day, I had a selfie taken with former Maple Leafs winger Mike Krushelnyski, who was a Boston Bruin early in his career and later on would win three Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers 1980s dynasty (he was wearing one of his Stanley Cup rings on Wednesday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre).

So I sent the picture to Mr. Loc, an Oilers fan going back to the 1980s, and he was amused to see Krushelnyski wearing the colours of the Boston Bruins, who twice lost to Edmonton in the Stanley Cup final.

Wheres his Oilers jersey? the Loc texts back. The one he had on when he beat (Ray) Bourques Bruins in the final?

Krushelnyski was a heart-and-souler with that Leafs team in 1993 that might have won the Stanley Cup, had referee Kerry Fraser called the high-sticking major on Gretzky in overtime.

Im still bitter about it, I says to Krushelnyski, and he goes Me too!

And he probably is, only not as much as I am.

The Town of Trenton has donated $250 toward the Junior A Crushers. Now, $250 doesn't go very far these days, but its better than nothing (county council).

Trenton council member Don Hussher didnt support the idea of giving money to the Crushers because we havent done this in previous years.

Another thing Trenton council hasnt done in previous years: straighten out the mess that Little Harbour (or is it Trenton?) resident Duncan Ross has been wrestling with for a full 27 years.

The guy has no cops to call because the RCMP passes him off to New Glasgow (and vice versa), he doesnt get water and sewer from the town, and yet he still has to pay taxes to Trenton. It all sounds like a good deal for everybody. And by that I mean, everybody but Duncan Ross.

Non-Sports Thought of the Week:

Some people seem captivated with the Christopher Garnier murder trial, which every day seems to raise the bar of unseemliness.

Defence lawyer Joel Pink had one of his favourite psychiatrists on the stand this week. Dr. Stephen John Hucker offered some theories (which is basically the only thing psychiatrists ever do), some of which were prefaced with words like could and its entirely possible and for even greater impact, its certainly possible.

Thank you, doctor.

As stated, some people are captivated but I, on the other hand, just want it over.

The Junior Scotians were in Cumberland County on Friday for their final game of December. The club lost twice last weekend, and the coach wasnt happy about it.

Our worst game this year was in Antigonish, Brandon Verge of last Friday’s 4-1 loss to the Bulldogs.

Full credit to them for playing a tight-checking system and playing smart, while we did not play at all.

The Scotians’ 4-3 loss to the Liverpool Privateers on Sunday, was the was same thing – spurts of energy, but the majority of the time, the intensity was nowhere to be seen.

Maybe it was university exams, or the oncoming Christmas rush, or merely a flat weekend in a long season, but the Scotians have had a great first half to their season, so a little rough patch in December isnt a big deal.

It would be a much bigger deal if this were February.
