Wear Well Bombers split opening weekend

MOUNT WILLIAM - Connor MacLeod scored his second goal of the game in the final seconds to put the Bombers ahead 4-3 against the Truro Bearcats on Sunday and manage a split for the Wear Well Bombers Major Bantams in their opening weekend at home.

MacLeod finished the game with a total of two goals and two assists.

With three players at soccer provincials and an injury, the local squad iced only eight forwards and played extremely hard to manage their first two points of the season. Other scorers were Thomas Schnare, assisted by MacLeod and MacLean Tobin. Colin MacGillivray tied the game only two minutes into the third.  Cody MacDougall was excellent in goal facing 24 shots and recording his first major bantam victory.

On Saturday, the team lost 6-0 to the Western Hurricanes in what coach Jeff Green described as a lackluster performance. He noted however that in fairness to the team, six players drove to the Bridgewater area, played provincial

championship soccer and drove home just in time to play hockey.

Brayden LeBlanc was the losing goaltender facing 25 shots.

Next weekend, the team plays in East Hants Saturday evening and in Port Hawkesbury Sunday morning to face the Novas.
