WESTVILLE ROAD – The Pictou County weeks Major Midgets are off to Bedford this week for the annual East Coast IceJam hockey tournament.
The locals play 7:30 p.m. Wednesday against the Kensington Wild, of P.E.I., then play again early Thursday afternoon and have another game Friday night.
The tournament features Major Bantam and Major Midget hockey clubs from throughout the Maritime provinces.
The Nova Scotia Minor Midget Hockey League also put an all-star team together that will play in the tournament.
“It’s definitely nice to have different group (of teams) to play against,” said Weeks coach Kyle MacLennan.
“It’s full-tilt, non-stop hockey and it’s good competition for everybody.”
Tournament organizers try to ensure that teams of comparable talent levels play against each other.
The Major Midgets lost two league games on the weekend – a 6-0 loss to the Halifax McDonalds on Saturday and a 6-3 defeat at the hands of the Cole Harbour Storm on Sunday.
Rowan Sears, Connor MacLeod and Luke Fielding had the goals for Weeks in their loss to Cole Harbour. Pictou County have dropped nine of their past 10 games and taken a tumble down the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League standings.
