After beating South Shore 4-2 on Saturday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre, Weeks again hosted the Mustangs for a Sunday afternoon game, only this time, the 4-2 final outcome went in favour of South Shore.
Then teams were scoreless after 20 minutes, but Vincent Rioux scored twice and Connor Goodick had another as South Shore compiled a 3-0 lead after two periods.
Pictou County received goals from Caelan Blaikie and Chad Tucker in the third period, sandwiched around a South Shore marker from Connor Lowden.
Evan MacLennan assisted twice for Pictou County.
“It just seemed like one of those games where the bounces weren’t there,” said Weeks’ coach Kyle MacLennan.
“We had a little lull in the second period – it’s a couple breakdowns here and there that can end up hurting you.”
On Saturday, MacLennan scored twice, while Oliver Schnare and Blaikie also had goals in the Pictou County win.
Jesse Ryan and Kayden Nickerson scored for South Shore, and Andrew MacLeod made 29 saves in the county net.
While Weeks naturally would have liked to have swept the Mustangs, “anytime you can come away with points on the weekend, it’s a good thing,” MacLennan said.
The Major Midgets will be in Dartmouth for a Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League game on Wednesday.
