Team Canada players Jill Saulnier and Blayre Turnbull were on hand to drop the puck at the Female Atom AA game between the Halifax Hawks and the Pictou County Subway Selects at Hockey Nova Scotia’s RBC Day of Champions on Sunday. The two national senior women’s team members were special guests during the weekend.

The Pictou County Subway Selects team won the gold in the Female Pee Wee A division with a 1-0 score over the South Shore Ice Sharks on Sunday. Jean Craig scored the lone goal for the Selects. Kenzie O’Donnell got the shutout in nets.

Earlier in the day the Female Atom Subway Selects won the silver medal after a 2-1 loss to the Halifax Hawks. Erin MacNeil scored the only goal for Pictou County, while Jorja Burrows made several key saves to keep the score close.

Also taking home the silver from games played on Friday and Saturday were the Pictou Maripacs Atom B, the Pictou Maripacs Midget A, the Thorburn Golden Hawks Pee Wee B and the Thorburn Golden Hawks Bantam B. Each of the teams were the North Conference Champions.

A total of 15 games were played over the weekend in 15 different divisions. This is the second year for the RBC Day of Champions format that sees the top team from the North Conference take on the best team from the South Conference in a single championship game that determines a provincial winner.

RBC Olympian and national women's team member Jill Saulnier was a special guest at the event. Fellow national women's team member and Stellarton native Blayre Turnbull served as the honorary chair of the RBC Day of Champions on Sunday during the female games, while Stanley Cup winner and New Glasgow's own Jon Sim was the honorary chair on Friday and Saturday during the minor hockey portion of the event.
