Peewee A Crushers retain first place standings

The Pictou County Peewee A Crushers remain in first place of the Fundy Highland League after sweeping a home and home weekend against the Cumberland Ramblers.

In Saturday’s game in Springhill, the Ramblers started strong with a quick 4-1 lead.

However, the Crushers stormed back for an impressive 8-5 win that included four shorthanded goals.

Goal scorers for the Crushers were Ryan Denny with two and Jake Pennington, Andrew Goswell, Thomas Kennaley-Bayer, Dominic Bond, Cale MacLaughlin, and Jack Marshall each with one.

Tyler Matchem got the win in nets.

On Sunday, the Crushers played a consistent game from start to finish and won 8-1 against the Ramblers at the Pictou County Wellness Center.

Goal scorers were Goswell with a hat trick, his second in three games, and one each from Nick MacInnis, Bond, MacLaughlin, Marshall, and Kennaley-Bayer.

Matchem played strong and got the win in goal.

 The Crushers next league games are Jan. 24 and 25 versus the Antigonish Bulldogs.
