TRENTON - Nick Fewer made an immediate impact with his new team.
The former Weeks Crusher scored twice in his first game with the Pictou County Scotians on Friday night, including the winner in overtime as the Scotians edged the Valley Maple Leafs 5-4.
James Murphy had a goal and two assists, while Jacob Pentz and Jeremy McFarlane also collected goals for Pictou County. Pentz now had eight goals in 11 games, and McFarlane has potted six tallies, second on the team.
Sean Anderson, Cody Burghardt, Eli Hughes and Ethan Rendell-Watson scored for Valley.
The Maple leafs had trailed 4-2 with less than three minutes remaining in the third period, then launched the comeback before Fewer’s OT winner.
The Scotians (6-2-3) had lost three in a row going into the game, and were to play at the Pictou County Wellness Centre on Sunday against the Cumberland County Blues. It was moved to the PCWC due to a busted pipe at Trenton rink.
Crushers collapse in third, lose 6-3 to South Shore
BRIDGEWATER - It’s back to the drawing board for the Junior A Crushers.
The Crushers lost 6-3 to the South Shore Lumberjacks on Friday in Bridgewater, a game that saw Pictou County leading 3-2 with 11 minutes to go before the ’Jacks scored four goals in a span of seven minutes to win going away.
Dylan Riley, Jake Stewart and newcomer Kyle Carter scored for the Crushers.
Logan O’Neil and Hunter Cooley both had a pair of goals to lead South Shore, whose 14-4 won-loss record has them in first place in the South Division of the Maritime Hockey League.
The Crushers (7-9-1), who have lost five of their past six games, are home this Thursday against the Summerside Western Capitals.
