Hockey Canada staff announced the final roster on Sunday at the conclusion of the development team selection camp. Turnbull was the lone Nova Scotian named to the 22-player roster.
“Camp was tough. It was really demanding for all the athletes and staff,” said Turnbull in an email interview with The News on Monday. “We were on the go all day long, we had early wakeups and late nights. Our days consisted of fitness testing, meetings, practices, workouts, and scrimmages so by the end of the day everyone was exhausted. For me, the most challenging part was just making sure I always had a positive mindset so that I was ready to tackle the entire day.”
Those selected will now play a three-game series against the United States in Calgary on Aug. 21, 22 and 24. Following the series, Hockey Canada scouts, along with the team’s staff will continue to evaluate players with their club teams during the 2014-15 season in preparation for selecting the Canadian team that will complete at an international tournament in January in Germany.
“When I found out I made the team I was extremely happy,” she said. “I sort of felt a little bit of relief just knowing that my hard work is actually paying off, but I was very happy and excited to get the chance to play for Team Canada.
“It's a huge honour to be named to the development team. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to play for Team Canada so to be able to be a member of the under-22 team is really special for me.”
