The M.U. Rhinos Renovations Minor Midget AAA hockey team dropped a pair of games at home this past weekend.

Friday night, they faced off against the Admirals hockey club and the Rhinos found themselves down 5-1 at the end of the first period. Blake Hadley had the goal in the first with assists to Jayden Muise and Brant Timmons.

After a scoreless second period, the Rhinos scored three three goals in under two minutes in the third; the Admirals got into some penalty trouble and the Rhinos capitalized with power play goals from Daniel Gillis, unassisted, and Austin Latte (assisted by Timmons and Jayden Hatchard). Cameron Britten pocketed the Rhinos fourth goal, assisted by Andre Gerrior and Nole Chapman to make it 5-4, but the Admirals scored on a power play to seal the deal for a 6-4 final.

Brayden LeBlanc and Matthew MacEachern shared the netminding duties.

On Sunday, the Rhinos met up with the Valley Wildcats, who opened the scoring with two goals in the first. Nole Chapman scored for the Rhinos in the second, assisted by Morgan MacPhee, and Bryson Chapman also notched goals, with assists to Blake Hadley and Hatchard.

The Rhinos were unable to get past the Wildcats in the third or hold back their offence, losing 6-2. MacEachern was between the pipes.

The Rhinos travel to the Valley on Saturday and return to the Pictou County Wellness Centre for a home game at 5 p.m. Sunday.
