WESTVILLE ROAD – The Northern AAA Subway Selects took a commanding 2-0 lead in their best-of-five first round playoff series against the East Hants Penguins in the Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League on Sunday.

The Selects were strong once again at the Pictou County Wellness Center in a 7-4 victory over the Pens. The second win followed a 12-2 blowout on Saturday which has put the Selects in the driver’s seat in the series.

The Selects need only one more win to secure a birth in the provincial final against the winner of the other semifinal between the Chevy Panthers from Cape Breton and Metro Boston Pizza. That series is tied at one game each.

Heather Miller led the Subway attack on Sunday with a pair of goals. Singles went to Ella MacLean, Kara MacLean, Sophia Wornell, Eva Wornell and Mariah Linehan. Jenna Landry got the win between the pipes.

The Selects will travel to East Hants for Game 3 on Saturday. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
