With five days to go until race day, more than 200 people were registered for the three running events, said race director Anna Kenney.
“Usually, the last week we get a lot more registrations in,” she said, predicting a field of at least 250 runners. “We’re looking for a good turnout and good weather.”
Registration for the marathon, half marathon and 10k will be taken up until that morning. Kenney said municipal staff will be on hand at the recreation centre on Sherose Island on July 22 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accept registrations, and again on Sunday morning from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.
The marathon starts at 8 a.m. from the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena on Sherose Island, with the athletes running a course through Barrington Passage, across the Cape Sable Island Causeway to Cape Island, where there are turn-out points for the half marathoners (21.1k) and 10 k runners. The full marathoners (42.2k) run the entire circumference of the island. The finish line has moved slightly this year, said Kenney, but it is still at the Cape Sable Island Causeway, Barrington Passage side.
A banquet and awards ceremony will follow the marathon at the Barrington Regional Curling Club. For more information on the marathon visit: https://raceroster.com/events/2017/9507/47th-annual-nova-scotia-marathon-half-marathon-and-10-km
