PICTOU - With the winter blahs about to set in, Pictou wants to "Take The Roof Off Winter" with the annual winter carnival.
Featuring a variety of outdoor activities, the carnival will be held Friday and Saturday in the town.
"In Pictou we are fortunate to be able to get outside and participate in snow shoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, tobogganing and a whole range of other healthy activities throughout the winter," said Nicole MacDonald Battist, recreation director.
While the winter season has long had a bad reputation, MacDonald Battist says many people don't realize how much fun they can have outside during the snowy months.
"Being prepared for the weather will help ensure that you have a good time."
The carnival will kick off Friday with a spaghetti dinner at Pictou Elementary, while Saturday will feature sleigh rides, a snow sculpture contest and a coasting party. Pictou United Church will hold a Valentine Chocoholic event at 6 p.m., while an adult dance will be held at the fire hall at 9 p.m.
