The Peewee AA Crushers finished second at the 52nd Annual Bluenose Early Bird Invitational Tournament this past weekend.

On Friday in Cumberland County, the Crushers opened with an exciting come-from-behind 5-4 win over a strong Dartmouth Whalers team at Amherst Stadium.

Leading the Crushers offence was Zachary MacInnis with a hat trick and singles going to Colby Nichol and Levon Walst. Blake MacLennan collected with three helpers, Clint MacLaughlin, Landon Steele and Brennan Hood getting one each. Jacob MacLeod stood tall between the pipes against a talented Whalers offence.

On Saturday, the Crushers played two games, beating the TASA Ducks 3-1 in their first match. Scoring for the Crushers were Walst with two and Wyatt Spence with a single. Assists went to MacLaughlin and Spence.

Next, the Crushers edged Western Valley 6-5, with Walst getting two goals, and singles from Steele, Spence, Mac Wallace and John K. Martin. Hood, Wallace, MacInnis, Walst and MacLennan had assists.

With the win, the Crushers finished the round robin 3-0 and placed first in Pool B, sending them to the semifinals against the Halifax Hawks on Sunday morning in Springhill.

The Crushers again showed their might, gravel-rocking the Hawks 3-0 and securing a spot in the gold medal game against the Cumberland Ramblers. Scoring for the Crushers were Hood, Spence and Martin, while Gage Connors, Steele and Walst had assists. Cole Battist earned the shutout with stellar play in nets.

The Crushers battled hard in the championship game but the home team proved too much, as Pictou County lost 6-1. The Crushers lone goal came off the stick of Colby Nichol with the assist going to Spence.

The Peewee AA Crushers next see action Remembrance Day weekend, when they return to league play with two games against Cumberland.
