Peewee AA Crushers win silver at Dieppe Memramcook Tournament

DIEPPE, N.B. – The Peewee AA Crushers won a silver medal at the Dieppe Memramcook Hockey this past weekend.

On Friday, the Crushers opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over the Acadia Axemen. Leading the Crushers offence was Zach MacInnis scoring two goals and Brennan Hood with the other, the lone assist going to MacInnis.

Cole Battist was between the pipes for the win.

The Crushers second game of the day on Friday saw them beat up the KV Thunder 4-1. Scoring for the Crushers were Levon Walst with a pair and singles coming off the sticks of Cole Thompson and Wyatt Spence. Assists went to Landon Steele, Mac Wallace and MacInnis. Jacob MacLeod recorded the win in the net.

On Saturday, the Crushers played the Moncton Hawks with a big 4-0 win.

Scoring for the Crushers were Colby Nichol, Blake MacLennan, Steele and John K Martin. Assists were recorded by Kayden Moulasion, Wallace and Spence. Battist was solid in the net as he recorded the shutout.

With the win the Crushers advanced to the semi-finals against the home team the Dieppe Memramcook Eagles beating them 5-2. Scoring for the Crushers was Clint MacLaughlin with two, Gage Connors, Thompson and MacInnis. The lone assist was from MacInnis. Jacob MacLeod was very sharp in the net.

In the championship game, the Crushers took on the Cumberland Ramblers, who also had been undefeated in the tournament. The locals played a great game but lost 3-2 in overtime. Spence and Martin each had a goal and an assist for Pictou County.

It was the teams third silver medal in four tournaments this season, to go along with a gold medal.

The league-leading Peewee AA Crushers next see action when they return to Mainland league play this Saturday for a home-and-home series with the Antigonish Bulldogs at the Pictou County Wellness Centre at 2:30 p.m. They then travel to Antigonish on Sunday morning for a 10:30 a.m. game at the Keating Centre to cap off their weekend.
