WESTVILLE ROAD – Tryouts for Pictou County peewee AAA and AA rep hockey teams will start later this month.

Players not wishing to play peewee AAA or AA during the 2018/19 season do not have to attend this spring evaluation. The players not making the list will begin their tryouts at the peewee A level in September.

The evaluation process will be the same as the standardized process introduced by the Pictou County Minor Hockey Association last fall. Players will be evaluated on a points basis by the evaluators and coaching staff.

Five experienced evaluators have been identified to assist head coach Jeff Green, as the ID camp has expanded this year to allow for more on-ice work in the spring.

“We are doing this to help with numbers because last fall we had 120 players try out – and that was way too many – and we feel this will make the process fairer, and provide the players with more opportunities to be seen,” Green said.

“We’re expecting about 75 (this year), and we’ll cut it down to around 40,” for September tryouts.

Cost for the spring evaluation is $40.

Players must register online before May 20.

Access your online registration account to register a participant, choose player, division, then the Peewee Spring Evaluations 2018 option.

On May 28 at 6 p.m., players and parents will attend an information meeting, receive their jersey and team schedule for the week. Players moving on to the September peewee AAA tryouts will be identified on the PCMHA website on June 4 at 6 p.m.

“We’ll provide them with a program and gave them an opportunity to get better over the summer,” said Green.

Those players will also be invited to complete at a four-week (eight sessions) skills combine program during the month of June. The maximum cost will be $100 to cover ice time expenses (details will be provided during the information session on May 28).
