The Pictou County Wellness Centre is partnership with the YMCA of Pictou County to offer local residents a chance to cheer on Stellarton’s Blayre Turnbull as she competes in the Olympics as a member of Canada’s female hockey team.

The organization will be hosting a live Olympic Viewing Party on Wednesday, Feb. 14, in support of Team Canada and Turnbull. The event is open to the public.

There is an evening of events planned including face painting, poster making, an Olympic skills competition and a public skate with the Crushers leading up to a live showing of the Team Canada versus Team USA Women’s hockey game. CBC will also be on location streaming live on the National broadcast from the Wellness Centre.

“The Pictou County Wellness Centre is very proud to partner with the YMCA and host this live viewing event to show the world our support for Blayre and the rest of Team Canada!” says David Hood, general manager of the Wellness Centre. “Hosting this community event is just one way to show our support for Blayre and to also say thank you for being such a wonderful ambassador for Pictou County and a tremendous role model for so many in our community.”

Events will get underway at 8 p.m. with the live broadcast of the game starting at 11 p.m. upstairs in the Wellness Centre Conference Centre on three large projection screens. The community is encouraged to wear Team Canada colours to the event.

“Being part of the Olympic team is an incredible accomplishment,” said Blake Cormier, membership services director for the YMCA of Pictou County. “Blayre has always been a very determined and hardworking hockey player. The Y is excited for Feb. 14 to celebrate and to support Blayre, and to inspire our community and local young athletes to reach their full potential.”
