NEW GLASGOW – One could say that Emily Morton-Fraser took someone else’s idea and ran with it.

When Jenna Tait and Derrick Pierre, owners of The Commune in New Glasgow, approached Morton-Fraser about holding a plogging event in New Glasgow, she agreed use her organizing experience to help out.

Plogging sees runners collecting garbage as they go for a jog. loosely connected to Earth Day. Participants can register online at raceroster.com for $10 and they will meet on 10 a.m. on Sunday at The Commune, located on Archimedes Street (directly across from the New Glasgow library), where they will be given a garbage bag to pick up trash.

“It was 100 per cent their idea,” she said of Tait and Pierre.

“They found that it’s a trend in Scandinavian countries.”

She said there is no set course, and runners can decide which areas of the county they’d like to concentrate on (an on-site map will be used to avoid multiple runners converging in the same areas).

“We want people to own their communities, and to take pride in the areas in which they live,” Morton-Fraser added.

A beverage and chili will be provided following the event, which will take approximately 65 minutes to complete.
