Royals win two Intermediate baseball league games against Bearcats

TRURO – The Pictou County MacLeod Lorway Intermediate Royals won twice the weekend in Nova Scotia Intermediate Baseball League action.

Coming off a home opener split the previous weekend with the Sherose Island Schooners, the Royals travelled to Truro this past weekend to tangle with the Bearcats.

Josh Fushtie took to the mound in game one and pitched a complete game to record his third win on the season. Fushtie gave up only two runs on five hits and allowing only 1 walk with 7 strike outs on the day as the Royals won 6-2. The Royals offence came off the bats of Tom Hayman (2 for 3 with an RBI), Layne Conway (2 for 4 with an RBI) while Tim MacKinnon and Kieran MacGillivray each had a hit.

In the second game against the ’Cats, the Royals erupted for a dozen runs in a 12-9 slugfest.

Hayman was on fire, driving in five runs on three hits, including a bases-loaded triple in the third inning. Layne Conway and Dylan MacKay both drove in a pair of runs, with both going 2 for 3 at the plate. Cole Heighton went 2-4 with an RBI and pitcher Cory Baird tossed five complete innings, giving up five runs on seven hits to get his second win of the season. Matt MacLean and Dylan MacKay threw relief innings in mound support.

The two wins put the Royals in third place in the standings of the NSIBL.

The Royals continue their league play this weekend when they travel to Shelburne to take on the Schooners.
