NEW GLASGOW – The West Side Community Centre is holding its second annual ball hockey tournament this coming weekend.
Nicole Walsh, vice president at the WSCC, said that money from the fundraiser will be put toward the purchase of new accessible playground equipment for the centre.
Last year, about $3,500 was raised, and they are hoping to surpass that total this year.
“We don’t like to put a set number on how much we’ll raise, but we’re trying for between three and five thousand,” she said.
The community centre received a government grant to help with the cost of the playground equipment and the Town of New Glasgow will also contribute.
Walsh added that a kid’s ball hockey league slated to begin in August – it will be a 10-week program – will also help offset costs.
This weekend’s tournament is for kids age 5-15.
There will also be a barbecue, 50/50s, prizes and other activities.
